Hailey Bieber Opens Up About Having a Stroke and What Happened Afterward, Including Heart Procedure

For the first time since Hailey Bieber broke his silence on the reports that she was hospitalized briefly for a stroke in March, the model detailed in a 12-minute video what exactly happened to her – and everything she went through afterwards with doctors to investigate the reasons for that. This led to Hailey having a procedure to close a hole in her heart, from which she is recovering well as of now.

With the stroke, “I had this really weird feeling that went up my arm from my shoulder all the way to my fingertips, and it made my fingers feel really numb and weird,” Hailey recalled. “And Justin was like, ‘Are you okay?’ And I just didn’t answer because I wasn’t sure, and then he asked me again, and when I went to answer, I couldn’t speak. The right side of my face started to s I couldn’t get a sentence out. Everything was coming out, not even confused, like I couldn’t get the words out. So obviously I immediately thought I was trying to to have a stroke, like a real stroke. He thought I was having a stroke. So right away he had someone call 911 and find a doctor. Where we were there, he was that there was a doctor there, a nurse there, who rushed over, and they started asking me questions. They started testing my arms. Definitely the scariest moment of my life. I had so many things going through my head, the first being, “I’m going to have a stroke”. I’m really scared. I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know why this is happening. duct. Am I going to have permanent problems because of this? Like, so many things were going through my head that really scared me and really, really scared me.

She continued, “The facial droop probably lasted 30 seconds, maybe a little longer. I couldn’t see myself, of course, so I don’t really know, but I know it calmed down pretty quickly and so they were asking me questions: do you know where you are? Do you know your name? And I knew all the answers in my head, but as soon as I tried to say it, I just couldn’t get it out. It was like my tongue and my mouth couldn’t form the sentences and the answers, so obviously it was really, really scary. So I got up, I could walk just fine; at that time, it was really just the speaking issue. I went home, waited for the ambulance to arrive, at that time the speech started to come back a little, I got into the ambulance at the hospital. There was actually a funny moment where they called the hospital to explain what they were bringing and they were like, ‘I have a 30-year-old wife’ and I was like, ‘I 25 years “. I had to make sure they didn’t age me five years for no reason, you know?

Hailey added that by the time she got to the ER she was pretty much “back to normal.” She scored a 0 on the stroke checklist once she got to the emergency room, she said.

She said doctors at the hospital diagnosed her with a small blood clot in her brain, called a TIA (transient ischemic attack), “a temporary blockage of blood flow to the brain, often called a ‘mini-stroke.’ usually a stroke, which is caused by a clot or blockage in the brain Hailey said she had no problems after her body was able to quickly resolve the TIA while she was hospitalized during the “I wasn’t going to have any permanent issues,” she added.

Hailey said the hospital tested her extensively. They tested her to see if she had a PFO (powerful foramen ovale), which is “a hole in the heart that hasn’t closed as it should have at birth.” But later, Hailey turned out to have one.

After her release, Hailey said she went to UCLA to see more doctors and had more extensive testing. “At that time, they didn’t really have an answer or a conclusion on why it happened.” As for why Hailey had a blood clot, she said doctors concluded three different things were factors: “I had just started taking birth control pills, which I never should have taken. because I’m a migraine sufferer anyway, and I just haven’t told my doctor about it, so ladies, if you have severe migraines and are planning on taking birth control pills, make sure to talk to your doctor about it because having a stroke is a potential side effect of birth control pills The second thing is that I had recently had COVID…and then the third thing is that I had recently done a very long flight. I had flown to Paris and returned in a very short time [without moving around].”

At UCLA, they did a more thorough test for PFO, and found that Hailey had “grade 5 PFO, which is the highest grade you can have.” (It was between 12 and 13 millimeters wide.) The conclusion is that Hailey had a blood clot that traveled to her heart and her blood clot escaped through her heart hole in her brain.

Hailey then had a FOP closure done, “that’s where they go through the femoral vein in your groin and they travel to the heart and they put this little little button that closes the flap in the heart and eventually, the Heart tissue grows back on the closure device and that’s it. And you have it forever and go on to lead a normal life. Luckily, Hailey recently had the procedure done and it went “very well “. I am recovering very well, very quickly. I feel good.”

Hailey said she felt ‘relieved’ the doctors were able to figure it all out with her and that she could ‘move on’ from a very scary situation. She is now on a blood thinner, which has exacerbated her anxiety, “but I was able to work out the dose with my doctor, and now I feel much better,” she said.

“It’s hard for me to tell this story…but I felt it was important for me to share this because it was already a public situation,” she concluded, adding that she wanted wait to tell her that everything was done and had gone well. You can watch his full video below:
